June 22, 2011 - "Miracle" outcome of epilepsy surgery
We are pleased to inform you of a national news story featuring an epilepsy local advocate. Daniel Jakubowitz, a volunteer for the Epilepsy Foundation of Long Island, was featured in a segment on the CBS Early Show on Wednesday, June 22. Daniel spoke with reporters about the success of his epilepsy surgery. Diagnosed at age six, Daniel had surgery five months ago to remove the part of the brain that was causing his seizures. He has been under the care of a multidisciplinary team of leading neurologists and staff at the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center at Montefiore Medical Center in New York for the past 20 years.

The Wausau Police Benefit Association (WPBA) recently donated $500 to the Epilepsy Foundation of Central & Northeast Wisconsin. This donation will be used to train law enforcement and EMS personnel on epilepsy and seizure management. Presenting the check from the WPBA is Lieutenant Luke Heindel, receiving the check from the Epilepsy Foundation is (L to R) Executive Director Art Taggart, Professional Advisory Board Chairman Tom McCarrier, and Outreach Coordinator Anne Faulks. EFCNW is also promoting an opportunity for law enforcement officers and fire/EMS providers to complete the training online.
